Abstract. The studies aimed at determining the effect of the age of the maternal plant and medium hormonal composition on the initiation of an in vitro culture of Davidia involucrata Baill. var. Vilimoriniana (Dode) Wagner. The results obtained demonstrated that MS medium with 1.0 mg× dm-3 IBA was the best growth regulator.

Summary
The studies aimed at determining the effect of the age of the maternal plant and medium hormonal composition on the initiation of an in vitro culture of Davidia involucrata Baill. var. Vilimoriniana (Dode) Wagner, from the dendrological garden in Przelewice. For initiating the culture a MS medium (Murashige and Skoog 1962) was used, enriched by IBA and TDZ. Explants for studying were taken during early spring, summer and early autumn. The results obtained demonstrated that auxin IBA (1.0 mg·dm-3 IBA) was the best growth regulator. Early spring proved to be the best time for culture initiation.
